Adventures in Computing Camps were
the brain child of Nevin Buconjic, President
of Digital Adventures, back in 2000
when he was completing his Computer
Science degree at Algoma University
College/Laurentian University.
While tutoring at an elementary school
(grades 1-8), Nevin was struck by the
lack of interest in computers at the
school. "The kids were not being
challenged or even introduced to the
possibilities computing and technology
held for them," states Buconjic.
The first thing he did was show the
kids how to make their own web pages.
"I just couldn't believe the difference
in attitude from that point on...I had
students wanting to spend their lunch
and recess breaks working on their websites",
he continues. This was the beginning
of Adventures in Computing, as he saw
the need for a fun and exciting technology-driven
program in the community.
Upon graduation, Buconjic approached
Algoma University about the idea, and
with their full support, the camps began
on campus in the summer of 2001. Since
then, the camps continue to grow in
popularity, as well as growing in content
and material -- including web design,
and video game design!
Each summer over 90 children and teens
(8-16) attend camps learning skills
such as video game design, web design,
and fundamental computing skills. We
are Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario's
most successful, and innovative computer
and technology camps.
In 2007 Adventures in Computing camps
became a
divison of Interactive Minds Inc. |
